Touchless and accessible automatic entryway welcomes Memorial Athletic Club members

When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, Memorial Athletic Club and Aquatic Center (MAC) in Houston, Texas immediately started looking for ways to create an easier entry and eliminate as many touchpoints as possible.

MAC caters to a wide range of ages, young families with strollers, and less mobile seniors that are there for the water exercise program. They wanted to instill a “wow factor” for returning customers while also providing confidence and a higher level of appreciation for their business. They turned to ASSA ABLOY Entrance Systems to provide a touchless and welcoming entryway to their facility.

While the old manual swing doors met code, they didn’t provide an easy entry for anyone with physical limitations and they also required touching a door handle. The entry area into the facility was also very limited by structural load-bearing walls and space limitations and they wanted to make sure the door system fit aesthetically and didn’t look like an afterthought. It was important to MAC that the new door was installed quickly as they wanted to be able to have the project completed before reopening for sanitation and practicality purposes.

In close partnership with MAC, ASSA ABLOY Entrance Systems was able to quote and install an ASSA ABLOY SL500 OHC sliding door for the entrance to the athletic club. The new door provides a touchless entry for employees and customers, eliminating the spread of germs as well as giving easier access to anyone who may have trouble opening a manual door. The SL500 fit seamlessly into the space and looks like it has been there all along, adding a touch of class to the experience of visiting the club.

Client Testimonial

“I could not be more thrilled with our ASSA ABLOY automated doors.  During the COVID-19 shutdown, it was very important for me to make my athletic club safer for my customers.  Our door was ordered and installed before we reopened.  It is the first impression our customers get as they enter our property.  Some of our members have been coming to our club for over 40 years.  Not only do they notice an important touch-point has been removed, they immediately feel a higher level of appreciation for their business.  The installation was so quick and seamless, it looks like the building was built around the doors.  Prior to our reopening from the COVID-19 shutdown, we created a YouTube video about returning back to our club.  The video has over 5,000 views and our new automated doors are the star of the show.”
